A true portrait : photography

Whenever I load images onto my computer I get a little excited. Alright, very excited. I can’t wait to see the images and I always have favourites. What I have learned over time is that these are not necessarily a client’s favourite. I consider it my job to capture a person’s character in a portrait, not just ┬átheir physical features. A parent might dismiss one of my favourite images because it just isn’t ‘their child’. In other words the image doesn’t give a true insight into how they perceive their personality. Possibly because it is my job to look at expressions and features, I rarely see an image of my own children that just isn’t ‘them’. However I took this last night, and while it is a lovely picture it just isn’t Marcus. Sure, the child in the picture has all his features but I would actually struggle to recognise him.

Whereas this one, I took immediately before it, was exactly Marcus. Who knows what we see in our children as parents? Why is one an accurate representation of him and the other not? I have no idea.
